Psalm 57:4 KJB
King David had confidence that God would save him from his enemies. David and his followers had to hide in caves to protect themselves from king Saul and his men who searched for David in order to kill him. David and his men had gained great fame in Israel because they were fierce fighters against the Philistines who were the enemies of Israel. King Saul hated David because he knew that David would one day become the king of Israel instead of his own son Johnathan.
David briefly described his enemies as being "set on fire," which was a simile about the fierceness of their hatred for him. Just as God can inspire his people to preach for Him with an inner feeling that is like an inner fire, the Devil can inspire people with a hatred that is like an inner fire. Jeremiah 20:9; Psalm 57:4 (KJB). For every good and creative act of God, the Devil has his evil counterpart. But one day, God will purge His creations of all evil when He casts the Devil into an actual, burning lake of fire. Revelation 20:10; II Peter 3:9-13 (KJB).
